Eastern region of Uganda is famous for being the source of the Nile and is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Here are the best places to visit in Eastern Uganda.
1. Source of the Nile

A visit to the source of the Nile is a truly rewarding moment and this will give you an unforgettable experience. There is a golf course unwinding along the banks and the source of the Nile provides a pretty focal point to the flow of water from Lake Victoria’s only outlet. 2. Mt. Elgon National Park

At 4,000km² Mt. Elgon has the largest volcanic base in the world. Located on the Uganda-Kenya border it is also the oldest and largest solitary, volcanic mountain in East Africa. Its vast form, 80km in diameter, rises more than 3,000m above the surrounding plains. The mountain’s cool heights offer respite from the hot plains below, with the higher altitudes providing a refuge for flora and fauna. Mount Elgon National Park is home to over 300 species of birds, including the endangered Lammergeyer. Small antelopes, forest monkeys, elephants and buffalos also live on the mountainside. 3. Sipi Falls

Named after the wild banana plant that grows nearby, Sipi Falls is a popular site located in eastern Uganda on the border of Mount Elgon National Park. This series of three waterfalls offers spectacular views no matter how you look at them, whether you hike to the top or the bottom. Nearby, you can also check out the coffee farms, explore caves or enjoy a nature walk.
4. Nyero Rock Paintings

It is not every day that you get the opportunity to see prehistoric rock paintings, so if you are in Uganda, a trip to Kumi town to see the Nyero Rock Paintings is more than worth the effort. Found in three separate rock shelters, these beautiful, well-preserved paintings portray concentric circles, animals, and canoes. The hike to the site is relatively easy, and you just may see monkeys, lizards, and birds along the way.
5. Itanda Falls

Itanda falls is characterized by all the six whitewater rafting levels. It is the Paradise of Kayakers and Rafters and was once visited by Prince William of Great Britain, Itanda falls is one of the most spectacular and beautiful hidden treasure of Uganda. Itanda falls is a steep cascade roaring waterfall on the majestic River Nile the longest river in the world, the water is estimated at 100 meters deep. Whirlpools can drag one down 50 metres, according to journals kept by rafters, before letting go. Sharp rocks and the rocket-like current can trap even the most experienced.
6. Source of the Nile Bridge

The Source of the Nile Bridge, also New Jinja Bridge, which was commissioned on 17 October 2018, by the President of Uganda, is a cable-stayed bridge across the Victoria Nile in Uganda.[3][4] It replaced the Nalubaale Bridge, which was built in 1954.
7. Tororo Rock

Tororo Rock is arguably the most prominent and defining feature of Tororo district. The people of Tororo talk about the rock with pride and at an altitude of 1,483 meters, the towering feature is visible from every part of town. The rock is about 3 kilometers from the main District offices and about 230 kilometers from Kampala (Uganda’s capital). Tororo rock was formed by volcanic activity in the earth’s crust over 250 million years ago. The rock has several ancient caves with interesting paintings from thousands of years go. Before Christianity reached every corner of the district, the people would go these caves to sacrifice and seek answers from the gods.
8. Sisiyi Falls

Sisiyi Falls is a magnificent spectacle attraction that stands out from a distance as you take the highway from Mbale to the districts of Sironko, Bulambuli, Kapchorwa and Moroto. The apparent white patch running down the side of the rock outshines a luscious green back covering this section of the Elgon Mountains. Sisiyi Falls is one of the less visited and least documented and it never runs dry, come rain come shine.
9. Nalubaale Hydroelectric Power Station

Nalubaale Power Station, formerly known as Owen Falls Dam, is a hydroelectric power station across the White Nile near to its source at Lake Victoria in Uganda. Nalubaale is the Luganda name for Lake Victoria.
10. Dolwe Island (Jewel of Lake Victoria)

The Dolwe is one of Uganda’s (and Lake Victoria’s) best kept secrets, a beautiful island about 25 sq Kms, situated in Ugandan waters not far from the Kenyan border. It is characterized by the many granite rocks and boulders which rise like castles across the landscape, one gigantic builder balanced on another, as if a giant had been playing with them. Dolwe is an island full of fascinating rocks and mystery paintings. It is located on the east of Lake Victoria in Namayingo district. This Island has been in existence for over 300-500 years ago. Travel by boat for 3-4 hours from Bwondha landing site in Mayuge district in order to reach the island.
